Pat Fallon’s vocation to God enhanced his family life, and the time he gave to his community, mourners at his funeral Mass heard on Wednesday.

Huge numbers turned out on both Tuesday and Wednesday to pay their respects to the man they knew from childhood in Roscommon, through his work with the Galway Mortgage Centre, as a sports enthusiast and cyclist, or as a performer in amateur dramatics. 

“As we approach St Patrick’s Day, we remember Pat’s naming at baptism, his mother and father and godparents choosing his name, Patrick,” chief celebrant, Fr William Moran, said in his homily.

“They wanted some of Patrick’s spirit to be in and over Pat. Pat did not disappoint. He is now in the hands of God, no torment will ever touch him again – he is at peace.”

Fr Moran said that Pat Fallon, who was a lay member of the Carmelite Order, was a man who loved life, sport, particularly the GAA and cycling.

“Fun and laughter was tied into his love for Breda, and their three lovely children, Mairéad, Francis, and James. His Carmelite vocation beautified his marriage and his life at home.

 “Pat was a Christian and a wonderful Catholic man, a man of faith, full of hope, and dedicated in life to his family.

“Pat used to say: love your powerlessness. The meaning that Pat found in suffering was hope that endured, when everything else appeared to be gone, he held on to that hope.

“He is not completely gone from our lives. No, life for Pat is changed, not ended.”

Pat Fallon, formerly of Knockroe, Castlerea, Co Roscommon, was laid to rest in Rahoon Cemetery, following Requiem Mass in Bearna Church on Wednesday morning.

He is survived by his wife, Breda; children, Mairéad, Francis, and James; mother, Josephine; and siblings, Úna, Enda, Daithí, and John.

Funeral details for the late Pat Fallon, Boley Beg, Barna, and formerly of Knockroe, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon, who died on March 10.

Reposing at the ‘Cillín’ within the Church of Mary Immaculate Queen, Barna, tomorrow (Tuesday),  from 4 pm, with removal to the Church at 7 pm. Requiem Mass at 10 am on Wednesday, followed by burial to Rahoon cemetery.

Pat is survived by his wife Breda (Barrett); children, Mairéad, Francis, and James; mother, Josephine; siblings, Úna, Enda, Daithí, and John.
