Old Photos of Bearna-Na Forbacha 3

Loving this picture from 1990 showing the ‘cross roads’ where Lacklea/Seapoint (south) meets Furrymelia East/Truskey West (north).

Bearna village in 1990, with The Paint Box being the main focus of the picture.

The Paint Box, with its red door, is the main focus of the aerial picture. The lands adjacent to it on the right are where Creagan is now, and opposite on the south side are the one-off houses on the main road in Lacklea.

Although Mrs. Faherty’s cottage at the top left of the frame is gone, the field behind it marks the spot where the new development An Maolán begins. The two detached houses behind the Paint Box - both of which initially operated as B&Bs - are just being constructed in this picture.

A Bearna legend, Colie Flaherty, used to walk his cow to the fields where Creagan is located now to and from his home in the village every day, holding up traffic every time! He never batted an eyelid at the inconvenience caused! Thanks to Margaret for the memory.

Incidentally, when Creagan was being constructed about 13 years later, work was halted for a few days due to claims that there was a children’s burial ground located on the bottom right corner of the site. Building works had to stop while this was investigated. None was found.

Incredible changes to the village in 30 years. Thanks to Denis for sending it on.
