There was a great turnout for the annual blessing at Tobar Éanna (St Enda's Well) tonight. 

Legend has it that the Saint rested there enroute to the Aran Islands. And that a well sprung up, which gained notoriety for healing ailments of the eyes.

This beautiful spot, located on the way down to Silver Strand, was restored by volunteers from the local ICA branch in the late 1980s. 

There are two crosses near the well - one visible in the pictures, and the other is on the ground. It was given to the ICA by a gravestone maker in Woodquay. Committee member, Kathleen Geraghty, had gone in to price a cross when the lucky offer was made.

It had come from an old grave as the family in question wished to erect a new headstone. Sean Connor installed it by the well.

Unfortunately, it was vandalised and smashed up some years ago. The pieces were gathered up and laid in the ground though, and Bernie Falvey was able to source a replacement, which remains today.

Many of those members of the ICA, who worked tirelessly on this noble project have since passed away, but they have left behind a beautiful legacy.
