Gertie Sweeney R.I.P.
So sad to hear that Gertie Sweeney passed away yesterday.
She and her late husband, Phil (who died less than a year ago), would travel down from Dublin and spend their summer holidays in New Village, Bearna, when their children were young.
When they retired, the couple bought a house in Cnoc an Gréine, Furbo, where they spent many happy years. They often spoke of the precious memories they had ...of the ‘All-Ireland’ matches played in Martin Hernon’s garden, between the Dubs and the locals (Curran’s and Hernon’s).
A native of Tyrone, and formerly of Ongar Stud in County Dublin, Gertie was a mother of 11 - Adrian, Declan, Phyl, Sinead, Paul, John, Ciaran, Dermot, Lorraine, Philip and the late Jackie.
Her remains will repose at Paul's residence in Carpenterstown, Dublin 15, tomorrow (Thursday) from 4-8pm. Removal on Friday morning to St. Mochta’s Church, Porterstown, arriving for Requiem Mass at 10am. Funeral thereafter to St. Fintan’s Cemetery, Sutton.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilís.
(Thanks to Margie Hernon for the memories)
