Barna Knocknacarra Rugby Club or 'Na Bairneachaí' was established in 2007 by a group of parents who wanted to make the sport more accessible to children from the West side of Galway City.
Its first registration took place during the Rugby World Cup, attracting 40 young members at ages from U9s to U12s. In 2013 the club had a player base of well over 100 at levels U8 to U12.
The name of the club was changed to Galway Bay Rugby Club in 2017. Training takes place at McGrath's Field in Knocknacarra (near Joyce's Supermarket).
