Barna Tennis Club was established in 1979 by a group of enthusiasts. The almost totally land-locked site, in Troscaí Thiar, had been purchased by the local Co-Op with the view to providing amenities for a growing population.

Initially, there was a small playing pitch and two courts on the site - and a short-lived playground. When further land was purchased in Clochscoilte for a larger pitch, a further two more tennis courts were added to the original site.

In 2011, the latter were upgraded to three polymeric-surfaced courts and basketball nets were added. A new playground was built at the site in 2015.
