Bearna-Na Forbacha (Barna-Furbo) is a vibrant community along the Wild Atlantic Way, on the western fringes of Galway City.

The Gaelic word ‘Beo’ means alive, which is a great way to describe our community! In the last census, the population of the area was recorded as almost 2,000 people. Within one generation, it has grown considerably, thanks to its wonderful location by the sea, and close proximity to the city.

It is much more than just a dormitory town, though. It has a great history, and faces an exciting future. With three schools, two churches, a playground, football pitches, tennis courts, beaches, restaurants, businesses and shops, it is a living, breathing, place to live. Its location on the coast road into the city makes it a popular spot to visit for those living in surrounding areas.

Bearna Beo is a community-focused website, that aims to keep our businesses, schools, voluntary groups, and sports clubs peopled! Check the site for news, Mass times in Bearna/Furbo, the business directory, clubs, organisations etc. Visit our associated social media pages too - Facebook and Instagram.

We have some beautiful beaches on our doorstep, not to mention cycling and walking trails. Or try windsurfing and sea kayaking at Rusheen Bay, and sailing trips from Bearna Pier.

Sit down to lunch or dinner at Padraicín's Seafood Restaurant at Furbo beach. Try the delicious bar food in the 12 Hotel, or fine dining in the hotel's West restaurant. Donnelly's Bar and Restaurant is across the road, and another lovely place to eat.

Fancy something spicy? Spiced Barna, located behind Supervalu, presents a fusion of flavours from across the Indian Subcontinent. O'Grady's On The Pier, at Barna Beach, is a beautiful setting for that special occasion.

Enjoy a coffee and lunch at Ground & Co., or avail of their take-away dishes. Sample the delights from the bakery at Supervalu or the Twelve.

No shortage of takeaways, either - with Indian, Chinese, pizza, and more to choose from - you won't go hungry.
