Bird Hospital in Bearna
Not many people know, but we have a bird hospital in our midsts! It is located within the bird sanctuary (Silver Strand) at the City Council lands behind the petrol garage - formerly Hunter's Caravan Park.
You can visit it anytime, and have a look at the residents - the permanent ones are a duck (pictured on the left), Lucy the goose, a seagull, two crows, and several pigeons.
This photo shows a temporary resident, a swan, rescued two days ago in Moycullen.
Volunteer, Bríd Fagan, says: "She is very small and weak, this is her first time out of the shed since she arrived. She is eating well with help from both her human handler, Mary Joyce (Knocknacarra), and Lucy the Duck."
She will be going back into the heat of the shed at about 5pm this evening, and hopefully will be released back into the wild very soon.
