The parish takes a great role in preparing its children for their First Holy Communion.

"During this time of year, our focus turns to the celebration of First Communion and Confirmation. These special occasions are celebrated within a person's 'spiritual/faith journey' - growing in awareness of God's presence in our lives," says Fr Michael.
"The Faith Journey is a lifelong journey. So, in celebrating with the children, it is also a nice reminder to adults and the parish community that God is near, and we are invited to continually deepen that spiritual bond in our lives.
"Within the Christian tradition, a special means of nurturing our Christian faith is through involvement in the life of the local church/parish, especially through participation in the Eucharist, the principal prayer of the Community.
"It is important that children have a sense of involvement at a prayerful level in the parish church."

The 'Do This In Memory' Parish-based preparation programme is one way of encouraging involvement. Fr Michael will meet with parents of all First Communion children from the three parish schools in Bearna Church on Tuesday, January 30th, at 7.30pm, to launch the programme.
