Rocks Hurled At Passing Cars in Furbo
Gardaí in Salthill are seeking dashcam or CCTV footage, following an incident where young teenagers hurled rocks at a motorist near Furbo school on Friday morning.
The motorist was driving through Furbo on Friday (14th August) at 2.40am, as she does every weekday after her shift at work, when five teenagers - aged 13-15 - on bicycles hurled rocks at her car.
“I went after them and actually caught one of them at the school. The rest hid up a dark road between houses.... I could hear them in the bushes and some climbed across properties and got away,” she recalled.
“I did have a confrontation with this young lad that I caught and held his bike, he was about 13-15 years old with swept over sandy hair. I was so enraged I couldn’t remember details of clothes or bike though. He got away with his bike up the dark road before the Gardaí came, unfortunately.
“I drive this road every night alone and, although I may have gone after them in a moment of utter anger, it leaves me nervous about driving home every night. The Gardaí were called to the scene, but I dont think they got them as it was dark. The thugs took some paint off my car roof from the rocks being hurled at speed - next time it could break my windscreen, hit me in the face, or even cause an accident.
“Any help or a public appeal on your page on Facebook would be most appreciated or to raise awareness to where peoples children are in the early hours. I dont know where these kids’ parents think they are, but they are hanging around to purposely damage people’s property in the early hours of the morning. It might end in disaster if they come across the wrong person or cause a serious accident. Any help you can give me on this I'd appreciate as I am nervous about driving home since.”
This incident has been reported to Gardaí in Salthill (Garda Sharon Keaveney 091 514720). Anyone with dashcam footage, CCTV from outside their homes, or those who saw or may know the culprits are asked to come forward.
UPDATE: CCTV footage was handed over to Gardaí following our appeal
