Co-Op Seeks New Members

Barna has been blessed with local men and women who have been willing to give their time and energy for the betterment of others!

New blood is important, however, and anyone who would like to continue this good work is invited to come along to tonight's AGM in the Twelve Hotel.

Barna Co-Op was set up in the 1980s to provide playing facilities in a community that had none. Five people came together with £100 each to buy an almost totally land-locked site in the village.

They fundraised to provide tennis courts and a playing pitch at this location, and later bought more land for an even bigger pitch in Clochscoilte. The old pitch was turned into more tennis and basketball courts, and a playground was added two years ago.

"Barna Sports Park belongs to all of us," a Co-Op spokesperson said.
"We are interested in new people joining the wider membership, and volunteering for the committee, particularly to focus on tennis and Tidy Towns. We have some exciting new work planned in the areas of Tidy Towns for Barna, community development, and the ongoing development of the tennis club. It is always great to get new interest and ideas each year and this wonderful facility."

Barna Co-Op's (Barna Sports Park's) Annual General Meeting will take place this evening Thursday, January 18, at 8pm in the Function Room of the Twelve Hotel (top floor).  The meeting will go through the accounts and the activities of Barna Sports Park over the last year.

If you cannot attend, but would like to get involved, please email Shauna: shaunamccool@gmail.com.
