Perpetual Shield Recovered after 27 Years

Amazing what a house clear-out can uncover! This Barna Community Games perpetual shield lay in a parish home since 1991, until it was returned to one of the original organisers at the weekend! 

The named people were the ones who won the most races during the annual parish event. Sadly, two of them have since passed away at a young age.

The 1991 winner has been left blank, we presume that the missing name should be Brian MacDara Geraghty, from Ballyburke, Ballymoneen Road. This may have been the last year that the Barna Medal Races (Community Games) took place.
